Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 23, 2026
UniTalent (“UniTalent”, “UT”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) values the trust you place in us and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect information that relates to an identifiable individual (“personal data”) when you access or use the UniTalent platform. It also explains the rights available to you under applicable data protection and privacy laws in India and the United States.
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of UniTalent’s website, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Platform” or “Services”). By accessing or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and agree to the processing of your personal data in accordance with its terms.
1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers
UniTalent is an online career record platform that enables Candidates to build a structured, append-only record of their education, work experience, skills, projects, certifications, publications, and awards. Once a Candidate locks an Entry, it becomes a permanent part of their record and cannot be edited or deleted.
UniTalent offers a free tier that allows Candidates to build and lock their record, and a paid tier (“Active Talent Pool”) that includes the Candidate in a curated talent database accessible to recruiters and Applicant Tracking System partners (“ATS Partners”), and enables the Candidate to generate a downloadable UniTalent Resume derived from their locked Entries.
UniTalent is not a recruiter, employer, background-check service, or credential verification service. We do not make hiring decisions, provide employment guarantees, or independently verify Candidate-submitted information at the time of submission. Accuracy of Candidate-submitted information is maintained through the append-only design of the record.
UniTalent is headquartered in India and primarily serves users located in India and the United States. While this Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, we respect and comply with non-waivable privacy rights available to users under applicable U.S. state laws and other relevant regulations.
2. Personal Data We Collect
2.1 Data You Provide
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and login credentials. When you build your career record, we collect the information you submit in each Entry, including education details (institutions, degrees, fields of study, dates, GPAs), work experience (companies, roles, dates, locations, descriptions), skills, projects, certifications, publications, patents, awards, and any other professional information you choose to share.
When you publish your public profile, you also provide a profile picture (optional), headline, bio, and location. You may also provide a ledger key during onboarding, which is used to confirm Entry locks. We store a hashed representation of your ledger key; we do not store it in plaintext.
2.2 Data Generated by Platform Use
As you use the Platform, we generate data about your activity, including which Entries you have locked, the timestamps of each lock, subscription status, and interactions with recruiters or ATS Partners (if applicable). This data is used to operate the Platform, enforce the append-only structure, and deliver Services consistent with these Terms.
2.3 Automatically Collected Data
When you access the Platform, we automatically collect certain technical information, including your IP address, device and browser identifiers, operating system, referral source, usage logs, and information collected through cookies and similar technologies. This data helps us understand how the Platform is used, diagnose technical issues, maintain security, and improve functionality.
2.4 Payment Data
If you subscribe to the Active Talent Pool, payment transactions are handled by our Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments. UniTalent does not store complete payment card details. We receive limited transaction information (such as the fact of a successful payment, the billing country, and a payment identifier) necessary for accounting, subscription management, and compliance.
3. How and Why We Use Your Data
We process personal data only for lawful, specific, and legitimate purposes. Your information is used to:
- Create and manage your UniTalent account and career record.
- Enable the append-only structure of Entries (including verifying Entry locks via your ledger key).
- Display your public profile to visitors who access the profile URL.
- Include paid-tier Candidates in the Active Talent Pool accessible to recruiters and ATS Partners.
- Generate your UniTalent Resume based on your locked Entries.
- Process subscription payments and manage billing (through Dodo Payments).
- Communicate service-related updates, including lock confirmations and subscription notices.
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal, regulatory, and tax obligations.
- Improve the Platform’s functionality, reliability, and user experience.
UniTalent does not use your personal data to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you. UniTalent does not make or influence employment or hiring decisions. UniTalent does not sell your personal data, and we do not share your personal data for targeted advertising purposes.
4. Public Profile and Visibility
By design, the Platform is intended to make a Candidate’s career record visible to recruiters, hiring managers, and employers. When you build your record, the following information is publicly visible to anyone with access to your public profile URL: your name, profile picture, headline, bio, location, and the content of your locked Entries.
Your public profile URL is not indexed by search engines by default, but Candidates may share the URL directly with recruiters, hiring managers, or other parties. Once shared, UniTalent cannot control how recipients store, forward, or otherwise use that information.
Candidates on the Active Talent Pool may additionally be surfaced in the sourcing interfaces used by recruiters and ATS Partners. Free-tier Candidates are not included in the Active Talent Pool sourcing interface; their profiles are accessible only via direct URL.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
For users located in India, personal data is processed based on your consent or on other lawful grounds permitted under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including processing necessary for providing requested Services, fulfilling contractual obligations, or complying with legal obligations. Where consent is relied upon, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time, subject to applicable legal and contractual limitations.
For users located in the United States, personal data is processed based on legitimate business purposes, contractual necessity, user expectations, and compliance with applicable laws. We respect state-specific privacy rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and equivalent statutes in other states.
6. Sharing and Disclosure
UniTalent shares personal data only in the following circumstances:
6.1 Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist with hosting, infrastructure, analytics, customer support, payment processing (Dodo Payments), email delivery (Resend), authentication (Google OAuth where enabled), and other operational functions. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and to use it only for authorized purposes.
6.2 Recruiters, Employers, and ATS Partners
If you are a paid-tier Candidate in the Active Talent Pool, recruiters, employers, and ATS Partners with access to the Platform may view your public profile and the content of your locked Entries. Access by these parties is governed by a separate access agreement and by our data-use policies. UniTalent does not control how these parties store, forward, or otherwise process information once they have obtained it through the Platform.
6.3 Legal and Regulatory
We may disclose personal data if required by law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or to enforce our Terms of Service, protect the rights or safety of UniTalent or others, or respond to fraud or security investigations.
6.4 Corporate Transactions
If UniTalent is involved in a merger, acquisition, investment, financing, or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will take reasonable steps to ensure continued protection of your data and to notify users of material changes.
7. Data Security
We implement technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS), encryption of data at rest where applicable, access controls, authentication requirements, and routine security reviews.
Despite these measures, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as it is necessary to provide the Services and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Specifically:
- Active account data is retained while your account is open.
- Upon account deletion, personal data associated with your profile is removed from the public Platform within thirty (30) days, except where retention is required by law or as described below.
- Locked Entries may be retained in an archived form for fraud prevention and record-integrity purposes for a longer period; these archives are not publicly accessible.
- Payment and billing records are retained for the period required by applicable tax and accounting laws (typically seven years).
- Security logs, audit logs, and anti-fraud records are retained for operational and compliance purposes, generally for up to twenty-four (24) months.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal data: the right to access a copy of the personal data we hold about you; the right to correct inaccurate data; the right to request deletion of your account and associated personal data; the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; the right to object to certain processing; the right to request information about how your data is shared; and the right to nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of incapacity.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. UniTalent will not discriminate against users for exercising their privacy rights.
10. Children’s Privacy
UniTalent is intended only for individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years old. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided personal data to UniTalent, please contact us, and we will take prompt steps to delete the account and associated data.
11. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, Services, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Platform, by email, or by other reasonable means, and update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy.
